Things to do in Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Things we did and wish we would have if we would have just researched more and had the time for. For video footage see my Cancun Vlog. Plan your trip to Cancun to get these checked off your bucket list.
XPLOR
Xplor is located a little south of Playa del Carmen. Roundtrip Transportation can be made to/from your hotel in Cancun by shuttle. It's an all day event at an adventure theme park that features zip lining, amphibious vehicles, underground and stalactite rivers as pictured above. Meal is provided. This is the top #1 thing I wish we would have had time for. I would have given anything to have more time to be able to go to this adventure park.
XCARET
Xcaret is an eco-archaeological park that we did actually go to. It's right next to Xplor a little south of Playa del Carmen. With too many attractions we were not able to see all that it had to offer. ( Underground rivers, caves in a Mayan village, a Mexican cemetery, archaeological sites, swimming with dolphins, sharks, and stingrays; SNUBA, SEA-TREK, and one amazing evening show! ) This park does require all day maybe even two. But here are some photos of the underground river attraction, snorkeling, and other areas of the park.
AquaTours Jungle Tour
This is a guided tour with your own personal speed boat through the Nichupte Laguna. It starts off of Kukulcan Blvd and circles back. You also get to snorkel at the Underwater Museum. (statues under water )
Isla Mujeres
This is one place we did not have time to go to. But there is a ferry that you can take from Cancun that's only $19 a person. And once there you can rent your own transportation and tour the island at your own pace.
Tulum and Coba
This is also something we wished we would have had more time for. Tulum is about 2 hours drive south of Cancun. It is an archaeological site that overlooks the sea. It incorporates the cliff top Castillo, originally built as a watchtower, and the Templo de las Pinturas.
More inland (about 40min-1 hour from Tulum) is Coba that has impressive pyramid shaped temples with views over the surrounding jungle and cenotes.
